Osteoporosis and low bone mass affects more than 44 million Americans, with over 2.7 million of those here in Texas. By 2010, that number will increase to 3.4 million; and by 2020, it will swell to 4.1 million Texans. That is the equivalent of one in two women and one in four men over age 50 breaking a bone due to osteoporosis in their remaining lifetime. The National Osteoporosis Foundation is celebrating its 25th year as the nation’s leading voluntary health organization solely dedicated to osteoporosis and bone health. Because osteoporosis is a preventable and treatable disease, support of NOF’s programs of awareness, advocacy, education and research is critical.
